Hi Michelle. My name is Jenny Fitzgerald and I live in San Jose, CA. Just watched some wonderful videos of beautiful Ciara. I have 3 boys and a little girl. Our youngest son, Garrett, has Down Syndrome, and is 6 years old. I heard in Ciara's 6 yr old. video that she was in school and was amazed at her conversations she was having and the reading she was doing. Garrett is not where Ciara was when she was 6 ~ but we're so proud of the progress he's making. He loves to read and his language is increasing. We had him in a typical kindergarten class this year and next month we need to meet for our IEP to decide what we're going to do next year. The teachers have already suggested putting him in the SDC class and then letting him come in a few times a week to play in the kindergarten class..because he loves to play so much. It broke my heart to hear that ~ but, I wasn't surprised. Do you have any posts about Ciara's school and how she does in a typical setting and what you did to set her up well for that? She's SO bright. I go back and forth so much on whether a typical first grade class...where there's so much writing and listening, etc. will be the best fit. I'm sure you're bombarded with questions...so, if you don't have the time to respond, please don't worry about it.
Thank you ~ and THANKS for sharing Ciara's journey with us. Blessings!
Hi Michelle, I'm going back on some old posts and have realized again some of the beautiful things you have written to me. Thank you so very much for all your kind words. You are an incredible role model for me a bit behind on this journey. Thank you for that.
